Job Requirements

Senior Tax Accountant

Direction of an engagement is assigned to a senior accountant. He/she is responsible for the proper performance of tax services and reporting progress to the manager or shareholder designated. The senior accountant also conducts the tax services for smaller assignments; planning, directing, and completing the assignment. On larger assignments, the senior accountant executes the services under the direction of a supervisor.

Summary of Responsibilities

Performs most work assigned with minimum of assistance. Often leads a number of staff accountants, instructs them in work to be performed, reviews the work done, and directs necessary revisions. Is able to make decision on all but the most unusual matters. When such problems arise, the senior accountant outlines them for the supervisor, manager, or shareholder and then acts on advice.

Is responsible for meeting time budgets on engagements and can lead staff accountants to employ methods that will accomplish objectives timely. Displays professional conduct showing, confidence and ease in the presence of staff and client representatives.

Essential Functions

  • Performs diversified accounting and tax assignments under the direction of supervisor, manager, and shareholder.
  • Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards.
  • Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
  • Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
  • Directs and instructs assistants, where applicable, in work to be performed and work paper review.
  • Prepares and indexes work papers; to document the procedures preferred and conclusions reached in the engagement.
  • Performs the broadest range of accountant tasks so that direct participation of supervisors, managers, or shareholders is efficient and effective.
  • Prepares other reports, projects, and duties as assigned.
  • Knows, understands, and follows the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Possesses technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff accountants.
  • Begins acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationships and loyalty.
  • Assists with formal training programs.
  • Maintains university contacts and participates in on-campus and office visits to recruit new staff.
  • Grooms business contacts and participates in local community organizations to expand marketing network.
  • Builds productive relationships with managers, supervisors, and shareholders by keeping them informed about work progress, and by adapting to various management styles.
  • Begins developing a command of pertinent IRC sections and regulations; becomes proficient at tax research including a knowledge of the reference sources available by the firm; assumes responsibility for the supervision of tax return preparation engagements.

Job Qualifications

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of auditing and accounting tasks.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.

Either holds a current and valid certified public accountant’s license or is working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the CPA exam. If licensed, should be a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Alabama Society of CPA’s (ASCPA) if applicable.

Proficiency in use of computers and computer accounting / tax software programs.


Staff Accountant

Job Description

Working under close supervision, staff accountants execute audit assignments in the areas of cash, receivables, inventory, fixed assets, payroll, and expense analyses. Tax specialists, working under the direct supervision of a senior tax accountant or supervisor, prepare tax returns and conduct research required for preparation of technical memorandums.

Summary of Responsibilities

The staff accountant is given a wide variety of diversified accounting and tax assignments under the supervision of different professionals. Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, and ability to meet time constraints.

Essential Functions

  • Becomes familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures
  • Effectively communicates with client to receive information necessary to complete the engagement with a minimum of disruption to client.
  • Understands the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA.
  • Attends and participates in professional education including in-house group meetings and participates in professionally sponsored training sessions.
  • Progresses professionally by working toward passing the CPA exam as soon as possible.
  • Performs other accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting duties as needed in engagements an as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  • May be required to perform all phases of an engagement, including report writing and tax return preparation.
  • Expected to red professional journals and to remain current in their knowledge of recent developments and authorized pronouncements in their practice areas.
  • May train other staff accountants.
  • Contributes to client service team by producing quality work, quick turnaround, and attentive service.
  • Assists with recruiting new staff by maintaining university contacts and participating in on-campus and office visits.
  • Performs services within budgeted time by developing technical, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Develops sound working relationships with administrative personnel, peers, and supervisors to foster teamwork.
  • If assigned primarily to financial statement engagements:
    • Becomes familiar with pronouncements of the FASB, AICPA, and when assigned to governmental engagements, the GAO and GASB.
    • Becomes proficient at preparing financial statements using the firm’s software programs.
    • Expected to provide ideas to improve client’s systems and operation during the engagement.
    • Involved in the engagement planning process.
  • If assigned primarily to tax engagements
    • Becomes familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations
    • Obtains a working knowledge of research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library.
    • Becomes proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns prepared by the firm.
    • Assumes responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff.
    • Prepares tax returns using the firm’s software programs.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

Human Resources Director

Job Summary

The Human Resources Director is responsible for management of human resources functions throughout the Firm, including staffing, employee relations, performance management, training, orientation and assimilation. This position reports to the Managing Shareholder and serves as an integral member of the Firm’s management team.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures.
  • Keeps current on human resources issues and employment law to maintain compliance. Acts as a liaison with attorneys and other advisors regarding human resources issues.
  • Maintains the Firm’s intranet and employee handbook.
  • Oversees recruitment efforts for all personnel.
    • Implements changes in staffing strategies if business needs dictate.
    • Advises and assist in college relations strategies and programs- on and off campus events, scholarships, offer letters, office visits, faculty relationships, interviews, etc.
    • Coordinates processes and ensures selection of quality hires for all positions.
    • Ensures consistent and effective orientation and assimilation processes for all new employees.
    • Responsible for understanding and conveying the Firm’s culture to employees.
  • Manages the annual performance appraisal process and reviews annual performance evaluations
  • Coordinates the Firm’s employee service awards program.
  • Works with the benefits administration department to communicate benefit issues and changes firm wide.
  • Stays in touch with personnel across the firm, listening to concerns and acts to resolve them where appropriate.
  • Manages the conflict resolution process and identifies strategies for improving employee relations.
  • Conducts termination meetings and exit interviews
  • Oversees training initiatives for all employees.
    • Assisting in recommending and scheduling staff for CPE or advanced training at all levels.
    • Coordinates in-house CPE and other in-house training sessions, including course materials, speakers, locations, etc.
    • Coordinates training for new employees among other departments
    • Coordinates a management and leadership curriculum for supervisors, managers, senior managers, and partners.
    • Develops, implements, and oversees the Firm’s mentoring program.
  • Organize interim and annual firm social functions. | Coordinates in house meals for busy season.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Credentials and Experience

  • Bachelor degree of higher in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • 10 years’ experience in Human Resources Management
  • Certification from the Society for Human Resources Management as a Professional Human Resources (PHR) or a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) preferred
  • Personal qualities of integrity, confidence, and commitment to personal leadership development.

Accounting Systems Assistant

Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg, Moore, PC is looking for a full time accounting systems assistant. The qualified candidate must have bookkeeping experience and some experience with systems such as Intuit Enterprise, Sage Quantum, Mas 90, Timberline, Juris, PC Law or equivalent. Candidates must be able to handle multiple projects with strict deadlines as well as adapt to the ever changing technological field. The ability to communicate and interact with people of multiple personalities is expected at both the client and co-worker level. Organization skills are imperative.

Experience linking third party software and writing import files is a plus, and experience with job costing would be beneficial.

*individual will need to be able to travel the local work area on flexible hours when needed.
